REIKI is a Japanese technique that promotes relaxation and stress relief. While its origins go back to sutras dated 2500 years ago, this technique was rediscovered by Dr. Mikao Usui in 1922. The name comes from the Japanese word (Rei) which means “Universal Life” and (Ki) which means “Energy”. It involves placing the hands on the chakras and other parts of the body. What is noteworthy, a reiki practitioner does not heal, he just becomes a conduit for the energy that brings harmony to body, mind, and spirit. You can lay your hand on others as well as on your own body. While some use this technique by itself, others enhance healing sessions with drumming, crystals, and color therapy. Beth Simmons Stapor, Ph.D., a licensed RM, suggests adding reiki to a labyrinth walk as a powerful way to send healing energy to all the people on the planet.
