 THE VIBRATORY NATURE OF REALITY

If you’ve practiced yoga, qigong, or a martial art, you’re probably familiar with Qi (aka Chi)—the subtle life force that is experienced as a vibration or flowing energy within the body. This subtle energy is also referred to as Prana or Shakti (in India) or as Ki (in Japan).

We can also think of Qi as being the vibratory nature of all phenomena: the subtle tremoring that—as physicists have now confirmed—is happening continuously at molecular, atomic, and subatomic levels. Though things may appear to be solid, at a deeper level they are vibrating.

Because the human body as well as its surrounding environment are continuously vibrating, the body’s electromagnetic fields resonate with surrounding electromagnetic fields. And this can be a good thing—or a not-so-good thing.

The biggest upside of resonance is how the human body resonates with the Earth’s electromagnetic field. In fact, our bodies depend crucially upon the information transmitted by the earth’s resonant fields—for the health of its nervous and endocrine systems, in particular.

So maintaining a clear connection to the earth’s electromagnetic field—via this natural resonance—is really important!

Another upside of resonance is how we can be positively affected by harmonious and energetically potent people, places or things: a spiritual teacher, a powerful mountain, or a beautiful work of art or music. When we attune to an inspiring teacher—when we resonate with them—we somehow share in their beneficially coherent frequency.

Spending time in the natural world often has a similar effect. Why do yogis and meditators go off to mountain huts? Part of the reason is for the silence and solitude, which support deep introspection.

But an equally important reason is that when we’re miles away from a large city, ensconced in an off-grid mountain hut, our nervous system naturally reestablishes a clear resonance with the earth’s electromagnetic field—which is deeply calming and healing.

THE DOWNSIDE OF RESONANCE

A good place to start is getting into the habit of turning all WiFi devices completely off at night—so that the body can go through its “rest and repair” cycle with as little interference as possible.
