Chi Nei Tsang (CNT) is a healing practice developed by the Taoist monks in ancient China. Chi Nei Tsang translates into English as “internal organ energy transformation”. The main premise is that unresolved emotional issues, which Taoists believed could cause serious damage to our health, get stored in our digestive system (the abdomen) where they cause constriction of the flow of energy throughout the body. That’s why abdominal massage and acupressure of this area are the main part of CNT treatment. Guided breathing and meditation (Cosmic Smile and Six Cosmic Sounds) also play an important part in a CNT session.
WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT DURING A CHI NEI TSANG SESSION
An average CNT session lasts about an hour and starts with discussing an individual’s physical as well as emotional issues. Pulse reading and tongue diagnosis are also used to come up with a comprehensive analysis of one’s current state of health. Although the practitioner is trained to sense the energy blockages, the patient’s cooperation is crucial.
His or her willingness to participate in the process of healing is necessary for full success and helps get to the root cause of body imbalances. The patient needs to wear comfortable clothing and be prepared to expose the midsection of the body. The practitioner will use hand and/or elbow techniques to go deep into the body sometimes going even all the way down to the spine (do not try this at home!) He will bypass layers of fat and muscles to reach internal organs where blockages and toxins accumulate and massage them to get relief. He will also “open the wind gates” around the navel through which unobstructed energy can flow to the internal organs. Using a skin detoxification technique, he will draw the toxins to the surface of the skin where they can be released. Some more advanced techniques, like centering and balancing the aortic pulse and directing blood from the aorta to specific organs, can be used by a well-trained practitioner.
AREAS OF IMPROVEMENT
According to the CNT institute in Berkeley, CA, CNT can be beneficial for many undesirable symptoms:
Chi Nei Tsang can be of particular benefit to some of the more intractable contemporary problems, such as sleep disorders, digestive disorders involving the liver, gallbladder, kidneys, pancreas, etc., challenges to fertility, nervous disorders such as anxiety and depression, musculoskeletal problems of undetermined origin, and auto-immune disorders such as Lupus and chronic fatigue. Additionally, Chi Nei Tsang can help to speed healing from injury or trauma, including obstetrical and surgical trauma.
Most of those who undergo a CNT treatment claim to experience not only changes in their physical conditions but also relief from deep-rooted negative emotions such as anger, fear, or grief.
Some people should not undergo a CNT treatment; exceptions include pregnancy, patients with a pacemaker, skin infections, and some cancers. As always, look for a well-trained, certified practitioner.
Chi Nei Tsang aims to show people how to heal themselves. Taoists believe that the most healing energy comes from within us. Once the blockages and toxins are removed from the abdominal area and the center of the navel activated, students can continue the healing process themselves using tools such as meditation, visualization, and exercises that they can do at home.
